During the 2019 regular season, Carles Gil played all but eight minutes for the New England Revolution upon joining as a Designated Player from Deportivo La Coruña, a club that’s now in Spain’s third tier of professional soccer.
It was an incredible display of durability from the midfielder, who earned MLS Newcomer of the Year honors in the process behind 10 goals and 14 assists in 34 matches, sparking New England back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
So when Gil made his return from surgery in late October, beating his initial recovery timeline, it seemed as though the 28-year-old could enliven the Revolution on another postseason run.
