Kristie Mewis (Hanson, Mass.) boosted her U.S. women’s national team stock on Friday, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 friendly win over the Netherlands at the Rat Verlegh Stadium.
Mewis subbed on in the 61st minute for Rose Lavelle, the game’s first scorer, and added an insurance strike in the 70th minute when facing the Oranje in a rematch of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final.
Mewis, who played for Scorpions SC and Whitman-Hanson (Mass.) High School before becoming an All-American at Boston College, laced a left-footed shot into the far corner, sealing the USWNT’s first game in 261 days. The lengthy delay was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
