When it was announced that New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil had left Achilles tendon surgery on Aug. 4, his recovery timeline was originally listed as 3-5 months.
Most assumed that his 2020 season was over, that the Revs would suffer greatly without the Spaniard providing service for forwards Adam Buksa and Gustavo Bou, the club’s other two Designated Players.
But on Friday night, the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year made his long-anticipated return ahead of schedule. He played 27 minutes off the bench in a 1-1 draw at Nashville SC, marking his first action since mid-July at the MLS is Back Tournament.
