After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, USL League Two soccer is returning to New England this summer.
Five clubs from the region and one from New York comprise the Northeast Division. The first match is set for May 11, with each team playing a 14-game schedule through the weekend of July 9-11.
The pandemic’s impact is still present, especially through roster construction. Local clubs are pulling from local player pools more than ever, so there’s more of a homegrown feel to the 2021 campaign. And for a quick reminder: USL League Two, formerly known as the Premier Development League, is an amateur league that mostly contains collegiate players.
With that introduction, here’s what to expect at AC Connecticut, Black Rock FC, Boston Bolts, FC Malaga City, Seacoast United Phantoms and Western Mass Pioneers. After Global Premier Soccer shut down in June 2020, GPS Portland Phoenix ceased operations.
