The narrative was setting up perfectly: Champlain Valley Union was poised to win its fourth straight Division I state championship, and six of the Vermont powerhouse’s seniors were on the verge of winning 62 straight games.
But South Burlington, which hadn’t won a D-I title since 2010, wasn’t going to sit by idly and let that storyline unfold, no matter how much the odds were stacked against them.
The end result? A 2-1 win for the Wolves (8-3) on Saturday that shocked the Vermont high school soccer world and denied the Redhawks (10-1) a chance at perfection.
