The New England Revolution played without several starters and lost, 2-1, to the LA Galaxy during their 2020 MLS preseason opener in Carson, Calif., on Tuesday.
Carles Gil, last season’s leading scorer, plus left back Alex Buttner and center back Antonio Delamea, remained on the bench as sporting director/head coach Bruce Arena utilized 20 players in the match. Afterward, Arena said some players were rested because of minor injuries.
Ethan Zuback (eighth minute) and Cristian Pavon (34th) scored for the Galaxy, and Gustavo Bou (42nd) countered for New England prior to halftime. Goalkeeper Matt Turner and left back Seth Sinovic were replaced after halftime, seven Revolution starters went 60 minutes, and Andrew Farrell and Henry Kessler went the distance at center back.
