It’s been less than a week since Bill Maddock (Marshfield, Mass.) took over as Suffolk head coach, but he already has a lofty declaration for the program.
In short order, he wants to turn the Rams into the top Division 3 private program in Boston’s urban core, with Emerson, Wentworth and Emmanuel listed as the top competitors. He views MIT and Tufts in a different realm, and then UMass Boston is a public university.
Maddock’s aim is ambitious, but might be achievable given the school’s downtown location, size and academic reputation. During the Suffolk search process, several college coaches remarked to New England Soccer Journal that the opening had serious potential.
