Last year marked the first year of the MIAA’s statewide tournament to crown true Massachusetts state champions in every sport.
In girls soccer, Silver Lake Regional High School, in Kingston, Mass., did its part to show that its program is up there with the best the state has to offer.
The Lakers advanced all the way to the Division 2 state championship game, falling to perennial power Whitman-Hanson, 3-1. Silver Lake, the fourth seed in a 38-team field, had outscored opponents, 8-2, in four tourney victories to reach the title game, and that was after a regular season in which it had to navigate its way through the always-tough Patriot League.
