Penn State has established history in developing professionals from New England, with U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher (Stratford, Conn.) and forwards Tiffany Weimer (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Katie Schoepfer (New London, Conn.) all tracing roots back to the Nittany Lions.
Now, another local player has used their Penn State career as a springboard, as outside back Ellie Jean (Coventry, Conn.) has signed with FC Nordsjælland. They’re currently in third place in the Elitedivisionen, Denmark’s top flight, and chasing a Champions League spot.
Jean played club soccer for Oakwood, and a connection there sparked her European start. Weimer, who coaches with their girls’ Development Academy program, played for Nordsjælland.
