Taylor Schram was officially named head coach of the Dartmouth women’s soccer team last December.
The program was in a pretty good place, so it wasn’t as though Schram was inheriting a team with an empty cupboard. In fact, the Big Green finished with a winning record in 2022, which was the fifth time they had done so in the eight-season tenure of former head coach Ron Rainey.
But the reality is, the Ivy League has become one of the best and deepest Division 1 conferences in the country. Programs like Brown, Harvard and Princeton have cracked the national Top 25 in recent years. Thus, competing for Ivy supremacy and ultimately NCAA Tournament berths requires more than just being a game or two over .500.
