Analysis: New England-heavy mix powers Vermont past NJIT

From 2016-19, the University of Vermont could dependably turn to Icelandic goalkeeper Aron Runarsson.

The 2017 America East Goalkeeper of the Year, Runarsson sits third all-time in career wins (28) and backstopped the Catamounts to an NCAA tournament second-round run as a freshman. Naturally, his graduation created one of several holes that UVM had to address.

Step in now-senior goalkeeper Nate Silveira (East Providence, R.I.), who’s seized the starting role this spring. UVM head coach Rob Dow, speaking after a 2-1 home win Friday over NJIT in America East play, said the former Dean College standout has been patient and remains underrated in New England college soccer.
