Williams had plenty of reason to celebrate Thursday evening, defeating Mary Washington, 1-0, in the NCAA Tournament semifinals, thanks to an 81st-minute header from senior defender Nick Boardman (Greenwich, Conn.).
Now, the NESCAC standout’s second goal of the year has the Ephs (10W-1L-11D) set to face the University of Chicago on Saturday at noon for the national title. The game will be played on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
The Maroons (21W-0L-1D) earned a 1-0 win over Stevens in double overtime to enter this all-decisive match. They’re arguably the nation’s top Division 3 men’s soccer team and could exact some regional revenge, losing to NESCAC rival Amherst in the NCAA semifinals in 2021.
