The state of Northeastern men’s soccer: Analyzing the CAA program

Editor’s note: As part of a running New England Soccer Journal series, we’re profiling Division I programs in the region. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting college soccer, there’s plenty going on behind the scenes.

While nothing’s etched in stone yet – either at the school or conference level – Northeastern men’s soccer head coach Chris Gbandi feels last week’s formal approval from the Division I Board of Directors was a step in the right direction.

Teams now know that a Spring 2020 season could begin as early as Feb. 3 and carry through April 17, followed by an NCAA tournament at 75 percent capacity with 36 teams (24 automatic qualifiers, 12 at-large bids).
