Soccer Nutrition: ‘I feel more powerful on the field’

Balancing the demands of varsity soccer and baseball aren’t new for Dorchester, Mass., native Seamus Buckley. He’s been playing both sports since he was 4 years old. Now a junior at Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, Mass., Seamus continues to play soccer as a goalkeeper and baseball as a catcher and team captain.

If you sit down and chat with Seamus, he’d be glad to talk sports with you — or politics, current events, or about playing piano in the school jazz program or being a student council representative. He could update you on the city of Boston Mayor’s Youth Council initiatives or about his summer job at City Hall. The list goes on …

Multidimensional athletes such as Seamus make my work as a sports nutritionist so interesting and enjoyable. My hope is that the knowledge athletes gain carries to the other facets of their lives and stays with them long after their playing careers end. I have a feeling this will be the case with Seamus, who shares his nutrition experiences here:
