Much of Josh Bauer’s soccer career has centered around New Hampshire.

He was an All-New England selection while at Bedford (N.H.) High School, played club for GPS New Hampshire and now stars for the University of New Hampshire, where in 2018 he was named a Second Team All-American and the America East Defender of the Year.

So Bauer’s destination this summer for USL League Two, the Seattle Sounders U-23s, bucked a trend. But trading the East Coast for the West Coast represents far more, he told New England Soccer Journal.

“A huge part of my decision to challenge myself in a different region of the U.S.,” Bauer, a center back, said.
