Playing before fans at Gillette Stadium for the first time in 414 days, the New England Revolution secured a 1-0 win over Eastern Conference rival D.C. United on Saturday evening.
After a cagey first half, the Revolution (1-0-1) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 48th minute when right back Brandon Bye's cross forced an own goal from D.C. United (1-1-0) center back Brendan Hines-Ike.
The game was extremely physical – the teams combined for 39 fouls and seven yellow cards – and short on high-quality chances. But the Revolution secured all three points, so consider the job completed.
