The Colgate men’s soccer team has done an outstanding job in recent years when it comes to landing New England talent.
In more specific terms, Colgate, a Division 1 program that plays in the Patriot League and is located in Hamilton, N.Y., has found substantial success in attracting players from Worcester Academy.
The latest player in that trend is Worcester Academy and NEFC Class of 2023 midfielder/forward Wade Johnson (Sherborn, Mass.), who recently committed to the Raiders. Johnson is excited to get the opportunity to play for longtime Colgate head coach Erik Ronning.
"I was talking to a good amount of schools, and I just wanted to go to a place where I had the best relationship with the coach and the most trust in the program," said Johnson. "My parents attended and graduated from the University of Georgia. I grew up around the larger southern schools and didn't know much about a liberal arts school. However, when coach Ronning reached out to me, I took the visit and fell in love with it. The education is exceptional and the environment of a small community is something I really enjoyed. Coach Ronning is creating a very tight-knit culture that I would love to be a part of."
