It raises an eyebrow or two if a Division 1 men’s college soccer program outside of New England has one player from Maine, never mind two.
But Siena will have a pair from the Pine Tree State when the 2020 season rolls around, as midfielder/forward Bilal Hersi (Lewiston, Maine) has committed to the Bulldogs. Last year, Hersi was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Maine and garnered All-American recognition from the United Soccer Coaches organization.
The second Maine native at Siena is Tyler Swanbeck (Hebron, Maine), a freshman midfielder who made nine starts (12 appearances) for the MAAC program in 2019. Before heading to Siena, Swanbeck won a pair of NEPSAC Class C titles at Hebron Academy and took a postgraduate semester at Phillips Exeter.
