The UMass coaching staff didn’t have to look far when recruiting Andrew Ortiz (Longmeadow, Mass.), and now the Class of 2021 midfielder has verbally committed to the Atlantic 10 program.
Ortiz plays club soccer for NEFC West and won a Division I state championship with Longmeadow High School last fall after also reaching that stage as a freshman.
As for why Ortiz chose the Minutemen, he highlighted being close to home, the business program and his Division I soccer aspirations. He’s eager to help UMass, A-10 champions in 2017, return to those heights.
