Recruiting advice: Put academics at the forefront of your search

Lots of high school players want to play soccer in college. If you’re one of them and you’re beginning or immersed in the college search, make sure you have a good answer for why you want to play. Simply saying, “I want to keep on playing,” isn’t a good enough answer because it’s not likely to result in the right choice.

Generally, the main point of college is to further a student’s education. Secondarily, it also prepares students for a career in the professional world and prepares young adults for their life’s next chapter.

From the student-athlete perspective, adding athletics to the formula brings some added benefits beyond the game itself. Playing a sport in college provides a great balance to academic studies and stresses.
