The President Councils for Division II and Division III cancelled all fall sports championships during the 2020-21 school year on Wednesday, marking the latest college soccer setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision was largely expected, according to Amherst men’s head coach Justin Serpone.
His team, which won the 2015 D-III national title and advanced to the 2019 match before losing to NESCAC rival Tufts, is in contention each year. Serpone also serves as the chair of the D-III men’s soccer committee, and helped pen a letter advocating that the championships would instead be postponed to the spring.
