A seismic announcement in New England soccer surfaced Thursday, with news that UConn men’s head coach Ray Reid is retiring after a quarter-century at the helm.
Reid has been part of the region’s collegiate landscape since the 1980s, starting at Division 2 side Southern Connecticut State. With the Owls, he won three national titles (1990, 1992, 1995) after taking over from all-time great Bob Dikranian.
He then took over from Joe Morrone at UConn in 1997, leading the Huskies to the Division 1 national title in 2000 as the high watermark of steering the Big East program.
