To no surprise, it’s traditionally the elder players turning heads each prep school season.

But every year, dozens of underclassmen find their way onto the field and lay the seeds of what will be promising careers. They’re freshmen and sophomores who aren’t supposed to be big contributors, yet defy all expectations, both internal and external.

From those strides forward, New England Soccer Journal has named its Underclassmen Best XI for the 2019 prep school season. The team is set up in a 3-5-2 formation and highlights 11 players from schools throughout the entire region.

There's also a bench of seven players, just like in a professional game, bringing the match day squad to 18. Where available, a hometown is included for these standout players.
