The Patriot League has had three different teams crowned champion over the past three seasons, but the last time a New England program wore the honor was when Holy Cross needed PKs to get past Lehigh in 2002.
The Crusaders were also the last local team to get close, dropping a 1-0 decision to Colgate in the 2017 championship game.
While both teams kicked off on Thursday, it remains to be seen if Holy Cross, which tied Hartford, 1-1, and Boston University, which fell to No. 20 UNH, 2-0, can insert themselves into the mix. There is plenty to be excited about with both programs as we return to full season action.
