Six of 23 Division I college soccer programs in New England won’t play this fall, with the Patriot League announcing Monday that it won’t compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision comes three weeks after the conference released its adjusted plans for games, but the Patriot League Council of Presidents ultimately decided that a season wasn’t feasible, following in the Ivy League and NESCAC’s footsteps.
Locally, this means Boston University and Holy Cross won’t have games until at least the second semester. The Patriot League has said it will explore all possibilities of competing during 2021, but it’s not clear if winter or spring sports will begin as planned.
