When the girls Development Academy began in the 2017-18 season, it fielded teams at the older age groups, meaning U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-19.
Unlike the boys Development Academy, then a decade strong, local clubs didn't have a pathway that extended into the younger age groups.
Starting next fall, that all will change, as eight clubs are set to form the Northeast Girls Development League, fielding teams under the DA umbrella at the U-12 and U-13 age groups. Locally, this is a big commitment from NEFC (Mass.), Oakwood SC (Conn.), Seacoast United (N.H.) and South Shore Select (Mass.).
