The third and fourth rounds of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft were held on Monday afternoon, and three players with ties to New England were selected.
Two players within hometowns in the region, Rhode Island forward Stavros Zarokostas (Coventry, R.I.) and St. John’s midfielder Niko Petridis (Norwalk, Conn.), were both selected by the New York Red Bulls. Meanwhile, former Boston College defender Younes Boudadi was picked by LAFC.
Altogether, teams passed on 27 of the 52 possible selections, reflecting the diminishing value of the SuperDraft in the eyes of many MLS front offices. The New England Revolution didn’t have a selection at this stage, having sent their third- and fourth-round selections to D.C. United via trade in January 2019.
