MLS NEXT clubs eye March return, hope for summer showcase event

While the COVID-19 pandemic is bound to complicate everything, MLS NEXT teams could have a summertime showcase and playoff event to look forward to.

Coaches from MLS NEXT clubs around New England said that discussions, although not complete, are ongoing to offer a capstone tournament of some kind.

Beachside academy director Paul Melitsanopoulos said there would be tiered options, or essentially contingency plans. It’d likely be for the older age groups (U-15 and up), particularly for college recruiting and scouting opportunities.
