Last November, the Brookline (Mass.) High School boys soccer team entered the MIAA Division 1 state tournament as the No. 9 seed in a 41-team field.
The Warriors then went on to produce a masterful and memorable postseason run.
Brookline won five state tourney games, including a 2-1 double-overtime victory over third-seeded Newton North for the Division 1 state title, the first ever state crown in Brookline program history. Isaac Heffess took a pass from Julian Gravereaux inside the box and buried the game-winner for Brookline.
The Warriors won with defense last year, allowing just two goals in the state tourney. With Gravereaux back to lead the charge, that area should be strong once again this fall for Brookline.
