Like in any profession, connections often go a long way in the soccer world. Just ask Hartford senior goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton (Wethersfield, Conn.), who signed with defending USL Championship winners Real Monarchs on Tuesday.
Slayton’s former goalkeeper coach with the America East program, Mirza Harambasic, will work in the same role with the Monarchs in 2020. That familiarity helped to seal the deal.
“Last summer he threw out my name to the staff and was trying to get me out there for training, but it didn’t materialize,” Slayton said of Harambasic.
