The traditional Independent School League season won’t take place this fall, several sources confirmed to New England Soccer Journal, continuing the COVID-19 pandemic fallout across the region.
Schools could still schedule unofficial games if they so desire, likely against teams that are nearby to limit travel time, one source said. A formal announcement was deployed to most families Thursday, after leaders from the ISL’s 16 schools met regularly to determine what’s feasible in 2020-21.
Since ISL games won’t take place, the league won’t confer its two champions or hand out year-end awards. Milton Academy won the boys title in 2019, while Thayer Academy captured its first-ever girls title last fall.
