Insider: Northeastern, UMass Lowell chase another gear after stalemate

At different points in Sunday’s match between UMass Lowell and Northeastern, both teams thought it scored a game-winning goal.

But some controversial referee decisions defined the non-conference meeting, resulting in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Cushing Field and cobwebs still lingering from the COVID-19 pandemic-prompted layoff.

Northeastern (0W-1L-1T) played its second spring game after dropping a 1-0 decision at New Hampshire two weekends ago, while UMass Lowell (0W-0L-1) entered its first test in 478 days. Neither program competed during the Fall 2020 semester, so they’re still seeking another gear.
