MAAC men’s soccer got underway on Thursday, and Fairfield hit the ground running with a 2-0 win at Canisius.

Even though he didn’t appear on the scoresheet, junior forward Jonathan Filipe (Danbury, Conn.) was at the heart of several game-defining plays from the Stags (1-0).

A former New York Red Bulls and Beachside academy forward, Filipe entered the spring with six goals and one assist in his previous 33 games. During the 2018 season, he placed on the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
