The New England Revolution U18's opening match at the 2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs in late June didn’t quite go as planned.
In the first match against Crossfire Premier (Redmond, Wash.), the Revs fell, 5-2. Their 15-3-6 regular season seemed for naught. However, Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.), their starting goalkeeper who is now bound for Louisville, refused to sit back and watch his team’s hard work crumble.
"I remember that the four guys who have been there the longest — myself, Daniel Jones, Matt Ranieri and Nick Woodruff — we all got together that night and talked about the mentality and how things have to go on that night and the next day," Miller recalled. "We were sure to lead by example, keep our heads up and tell the other guys how we had to put it behind us and look forward to the next game. That’s the only one we could control at that point."
