A year-and-a-half ago, Jacob Shaffelburg made the rare jump from prep school soccer to the professional ranks.
Since, the former Berkshire School star has signed a Homegrown Player deal with Toronto FC and was part of the Reds’ run to the MLS Cup and Canadian Championship finals in 2019. Shaffelburg also made his debut for the Canada men’s national team in a January friendly against Barbados.
Ahead of Shaffelburg’s first full season in MLS, we caught up with the left-footed winger to discuss his budding career, prep school roots and more. The 2018 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year connected from TFC’s preseason camp in Los Angeles.
