The seniors on the Stonington (Conn.) High School boys soccer team dubbed the 2021 season "The Last Dance," which, of course, pays tribute to the 2020 documentary that chronicled the 1997-98 season for the Chicago Bulls.
It was certainly a fall to remember for the players, as they helped Stonington capture its second straight CIAC Class M state championship (there was no state tourney in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The Bears posted a record of 21-1.
"We’ve been playing together our whole lives and we kind of knew this would be our last time playing together," said senior defender Billy deCastro. "We’re all going to our different colleges, but it was definitely special. I’m glad we got it done, because if we didn’t it would’ve bothered me for a while."
The senior experience got even more special recently for deCastro and three of his classmates and close friends from the team. All four of them have committed to play soccer at the collegiate level.
