At season’s midway point, local D1 men’s powerhouses struggling

If anyone tells you that they predicted UMass-Lowell, Providence College and Boston College would be struggling like this with half of the 2017 season gone, they're lying straight to your face.

But for one reason or another, these powerhouses in New England haven't quite figured things out, with some lesser-knowns emerging as true contenders.

The likes of UMass, URI, Brown and New Hampshire have impressed, defying external expectations. Odds are they haven't defied internal ones, though, especially as Fran O'Leary (UMass) and Marc Hubbard (UNH) are building strong programs at their respective schools.
