From a media perspective, little attention is typically paid to U-14 soccer and below. After all, the players are in elementary school and middle school, with their driver’s license a hope that’s years away.
But what FSA FC did this fall and spring in the Boys ECNL at the U-13 and U-14 age groups has turned some heads. The club from Farmington, Conn., saw those two teams go a combined 41-0-3 in league play, as both won the Northeast Conference and the U-14s booked a spot in the ENPL Playoffs from June 28 to July 2 in Rockford, Ill. Their U-13s would have qualified as well, but there’s no national event that young.
So, what’s behind their collective success? Director of coaching Steve Stokoe said it comes down to flipping the script on where FSA coaches allocate time and resources.
