In many countries, Stefan Defregger would have little difficulty finding a professional team.
But Defregger, 25, has been out of a full-time playing gig since the demise of the Rochester Rhinos last year.
Despite being without with a pro team, the Gilford, N.H., native is still getting a chance to display his talent. Last Saturday, he scored twice for GPS Omens as they were eliminated in penalty kicks after playing Safira FC to a 2-2 draw in a U.S. Open Cup third-round qualifier.
“My fiancee’s in Boston, so I’m sticking around for now,” Defregger said after the match at Rotch Field in Boston’s South End.
