Four decades and more than 600 victories after he first began his high school coaching career, Steve Waters is still making soccer history in Connecticut.
Waters spent 36 years at Farmington High School -- winning nine state championships -- before determining "there wasn’t much more that could be done there." He then relocated and joined the staff of Sam Barnes at Old Saybrook High School as a combined freshmen and JV coach, as well as a varsity assistant in 2018.
"I came in and there were some things where I could see needed some change," Waters told New England Soccer Journal. "Sam was OK with that. Sam let me tailor some things and do certain things with the varsity. I was always building just in case."
