Under ideal circumstances, players and coaches on the VT Fusion would be boarding a bus later this week for Long Island, ready to measure themselves in a division championship game in the WPSL this weekend.
Instead, they were set to gather for a team dinner on Wednesday, hold training sessions Thursday and Friday, and then call it a summer before heading back to their respective colleges.
By any measure, the first WPSL season for the expansion Fusion was a success. They played eight matches, winning five and drawing two. They also created a soccer buzz for home games at Applejack Stadium in Manchester, Vt.
