The last time Jack Doran (West Roxbury, Mass.) played for Duke in a competitive match, it was nearly 22 months ago during a Sweet 16 game at Maryland. The date was Nov. 24, 2018, to be precise, and he logged 90 minutes in a 2-0 defeat to the eventual national champions.
But when competing later that summer in USL League Two for the Boston Bolts, Doran tore his ACL. The timing ensured he’d miss the entirety of Duke’s 2019 campaign, and the Blue Devils finished below .500 for just the second time in over 15 years.
Now, as Duke approaches the most-unusual 2020 season, Doran is back healthy as a graduate student and captain. Excitement doesn’t begin to describe his state of mind.
