Division 1 soccer next spring? It’s more complicated than meets the eye

Should college soccer (traditionally a fall sport) be played next spring, New England’s 45 Division I programs now have a scheduling framework to operate within.

The D-I Board of Directors approved a plan Tuesday for conducting fall championships and beginning regular-season games, adopting D-I Council recommendations that were approved last week.

The same group had previously given fall-season players an extra year of eligibility and an additional year in which to complete it, with both decisions sparked by COVID-19 pandemic fallout.
