Delayed sophomore season holds promise for Wesleyan’s Grace Devanny

Grace Devanny is ready to get back in the swing of things with the Wesleyan University women’s soccer team.

Like a number of intercollegiate athletic teams last season, the Cardinals did not play any games in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wesleyan will be returning to the field this fall, however, and Devanny again will be one of the key players the Cardinals will be looking to in their quest to move up the NESCAC ranks and beyond.

"I think as a team, we want to make the NCAA tournament," said Devanny in mid-August.

The sophomore midfielder also said in talking with her teammates and coaches that that lofty goal will be preceded by first focusing on smaller ambitions, such as an improved speed of play, and techniques both on and off the ball.
