What a freshman season it was for UMass midfielder Davis Smith.

The standout from Amherst, Mass., was named a Third-Team All-American, First-Team All-Region player and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year. That's what a a 10-goal, seven-assist season for a team that made the NCAA tournament will do for you.

Now a sophomore, Smith is in the midst of leading the Minutemen as they seek to defend their A-10 title. Along with New England Soccer Journal's Kyle McCarthy, Smith talked everything from making the Hermann Trophy Watch List to a brief Texan foray to his local roots. You can find the interview after the jump.
