The path Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) took before signing with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Tuesday didn’t quite require planes, trains and automobiles, but it was pretty darn close.
Nearly two months after being selected in the second round (49th overall) of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Columbus Crew SC, the former Providence College and Oakwood midfielder has landed in the USL Championship.
He’ll be coached by Bob Lilley, who used to manage former New England Revolution USL affiliate club Rochester Rhinos, likely in a box-to-box or No. 10 role. A one-year contract with a club option for the 2021 season awaits, per a Riverhounds release.
