The Tufts women’s soccer team, over the past two weeks, has charted a head-turning path to the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
The Jumbos (11W-5L-4D) have reached the program’s third-ever Final Four and await a Nov. 30 showdown with Cal Lutheran. The winner advances to face either Messiah or WashU on Dec. 2 for the Division 3 national title.
But head coach Martha Whiting, even with her place on the regional ranking committee, was unsure if they’d qualify for the Big Dance. Tufts finished eighth in the NESCAC regular-season standings and lost to powerhouse side Amherst in the quarterfinals of its conference tournament on Oct. 28, creating a waiting game.
