After a disappointing 2022 campaign that saw the program finish 1-10-4, the University of New Haven has hired a new men’s soccer head coach.
Last week, New Haven, a Division 2 program, officially named Thomas Mattera as the 16th head coach in the history of the program. Mattera, who is familiar with the Chargers, returns to West Haven after serving as the head coach at College of Mount Saint Vincent for the past two seasons.
"We are excited to add coach Mattera to lead our men's soccer program," said New Haven Interim Director of Athletics Jon Mays. "Tommy has proven his ability to lead winning programs both as a player and as a coach and has a great track record of developing student-athletes on and off the field. New Haven has a strong tradition in men's soccer and we look forward to watching him build the Chargers back into a championship-caliber program."
