Franklin Pierce University won a Division 2 men’s soccer national championship in 2007.
The Ravens have knocked on the door many times since then, but fell short of a crown each time. Perhaps this will be the year FPU, the last New England side left standing in the D2 NCAA Tournament, breaks through again.
The team owns a record of 20-1 and a top seed in the NCAA Tournament Super Region 1. They will host fourth-seeded Millersville (15-5-1) in a Sweet 16 matchup on Thursday (10 a.m.), and a win would mean hosting an NCAA quarterfinal on Saturday against either Charleston or Davis & Elkins.
All told, Northeast-10 champion FPU is four wins away from a national title and two wins away from a Final Four trip to Colorado Springs, Colo.
