Jaydah Bedoya (New Bedford, Mass.) emerged as a formidable scorer as a sophomore during the 2021 season for the University of Connecticut women’s soccer team.
She tallied a team-high six goals, including five in Big East play. However, Bedoya also blossomed into a capable creator for the Huskies, who look poised to return their program to elite status, thanks to rising talents like Bedoya.
In the regular-season finale at No. 21 Georgetown on Oct. 28, Bedoya set-up fellow sophomore Lucy Cappadona (Marlborough, Mass.) for the game’s only goal in the 58th minute to help UConn hand the Hoyas their first loss since 2019 and secure a place in the Big East Tournament. Collecting an assist on a game-winning goal is not the biggest deal. Bedoya and Cappadona tied for the team-lead last season with four assists each. It was the manner and moment in which Bedoya picked up the assist.
